Bhorgiri FortHeight : 2000
Type : Hill forts Fort Range : Bhimashankar
District : Pune Grade : Medium
The mountain on the backside of Bhorgiri village has two caves which are easily visible from the village. These caves and a saffron flag are visible at the midst height of the fort. One has to cross a small stream to reach the base in 5 minutes. At the last patch of the fort there are steps carved in stone. We reach the first cave within 5 minutes walking from the base. There are two water tanks on both sides of the first cave which is built on four supporting pillars. On the left side of the water tank there is a Shiv ling and a Nandi sculpture. The second cave is bigger than the first one which is also built on four supporting pillars and has two Shiv ling and Nandi sculptures. Moving back to the route on the opposite by keeping the hill on our left and valley to the right we have to climb the mountain which will take us to the remnants of the fortification wall and then to the summit. Here there is a Satvahana era water tank of which two parts have water and the third part is dried up and has a Veerghal kept in it. Circumnavigating the fort on the left we come across a water tank which is in ruins and it has a Shivling carved on it. Moving forward there are joint water tanks and also there is another when we circumnavigate the fort. Here there is a ruined stone sculpture painted with Vermillion.

Further in the dense vegetation on the fort there are Shivlingas and a devastated sculpture of Veerbhadra. Near this a path descends down which takes us to steps carved in stone and a cave to the right. Bit earlier on the same path towards the left there are remnants of an entrance doorway. The route going from this doorway takes us to Bhimashankar region.
