Revdanda
History :
A Portuguese captain Soj started the construction of the fort in 1528. B Prior to that, in 1516, the Portuguese had built a factory here which was known as “Chowkoni Buruj” or the square shaped bastion. The walls of this factory were completed between 1521 and 1524. On the night of July 22nd 1683, the Marathas attempted an attack on Revdanda. The Marathas besieged the fort, but had to withdraw when the Portuguese attacked Fonda. As per the treaty between them on 25th Nov 1740, the Portuguese handed over Revdanda and Korlai forts to Marathas and took charge of the villages on Sashti Island. In 1806, the British took over the charge of Revdanda. Angres conquered the fort in 1817 but the British got the fort back in 1818.
Fascinating Spots :

The circumference of the fort is around 5 km. As fortification wall surrounds the entire village, most of the area is private and hence inaccessible. The modern entrance is made by demolishing a part of the fort wall, and we can see a Portuguese emblem on the main door. Inside the fort we can see 3 cannon balls in front of main entrance. There are stairs to the upper part of the entrance and there is a cannonball stuck up in the wall. There are dilapidated manors on the fort and a tower, and we can see some remnants on the shores. There is an old tunnel below the main walls which is now defunct.
