<p ="Msonormal"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Harvester
ants as the name suggests, collects and stores the seeds in the nest in
communal chambers called granaries. It is said that, they are the saviors for
tribal or local people during famine conditions .<o:p></o:p>

<p ="Msonormal"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">The ants
build their nests on a slant and the spiraling channels guide the water away,
slowing it down rather than risk eroding the face of the nest. The nest’s
architecture functions to divert large amounts of water from the central nest
entrance. The nest cone is oriented so that the longest slope faces towards the
direction that the entrance is facing.<o:p></o:p>

<p ="Msonormal"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">The
number and abundance of ants near the cone varies depending upon the temperature
outside. That is highest in mid-morning virtually absent from the cone during
mid-afternoon and returning in smaller numbers at dusk. The nest cone is an
adaptation which minimizes the amplitude of daily temperature fluctuation. By
moving to appropriate areas of the nest cone, the ants can take advantage of
the increased range of temperature.
