History :
Achalpur was governed by the Muslim Delhi Sultanate from 1294 and that is the point at which the stronghold must have been developed. From Achalpur we began for Gawilgad post close Chikhaldhara and around 50 kms approx from Achalpur.

The historical backdrop of Achalpur, once known as Ellichpur, could well be said to be history of Vidarbha (Berar) itself. Nawab Sultan Khan, the first of his administration, assembled the fortress at Sultanapura in Achalpur on the south the bank of the Sarpan River in around 1754 AD.

A significant part of the piece of the stronghold is presently in totally flimsy condition. The city was strengthened by Sultan Khan's child Ismail Khan by a gigantic and robust defence divider of stone work with four entryways.

The greater part of the strongholds and the doors are still intact. The fortification is an area stronghold and the majority of it is gone to the present day development yet some door entryways, bastions and dividers are still in place.
