Introduction

Mahadevgad fort is 3 kms from the famous hill station Amboli in Sindhudurg district. In ancient times goods unloaded on the ports of Malvan, Vengurla, Redi used to be transported to different market places via ghats. Mahadevgad fort was primarily built to protect Paarpoli ghat trade route.

Historical Background

This fort was built by Anasaheb Fond Sawant of Sawantwadi. The fort had a well built fortified wall and bastions. There was a trench surrounding the fort wall but sadly none of these have stood the test of time and there are no remnants left on the fort.

How to Reach

Mumbai to Sawantwadi is 521 kms.
Sawantwadi to Amboli is 32 kms.
Amboli to Mahadevgad fort is 3 kms and is connected through a well paved road. ST buses ply regularly from Sawantwadi to Amboli.

Points of Interest

There are no remnants on the fort. Manohar-Mansantoshgad forts could be seen on the west.
