Introduction

Durgadevi Mandir is an ancient temple located in Murud Harne, a historic port village near Dapoli in Ratnagiri district.

Religious Importance

The temple is culturally and historically important due to its Portuguese bell, ancient inscriptions, and Durga idol.

History

The present structure was renovated in 1763. Murud Harne has been a well-known port since ancient times, adding historical importance to the temple.

Architecture

The sabhamandap is supported by carved wooden pillars featuring Sharabh and elephant motifs. A Ganesh carving adorns the sanctum doorway. The eight-armed idol of Goddess Durga is made from stone sourced from the Gandaki river in Karnataka. A Portuguese bell hangs in the hall, and a worn Gadhegal stone lies outside.

How to Reach

Reach Dapoli from Mumbai. Murud Harne is about 8 km from Dapoli, and the temple can be accessed directly by road.

Notes

The Portuguese bell and Gandaki stone Durga idol are unique features of the temple.
