Introduction

Gondeshwar Mandir is a famous ancient temple situated on the Mumbai–Shirdi highway at Sinnar. The temple complex is surrounded by a fortified wall and showcases remarkable stone architecture.

History

The exact date and builder of the temple are unknown. It is believed to have been constructed during the Yadava dynasty in the 12th century.

Architecture

The temple is built in the Bhumija architectural style. The complex consists of five temples with intricate carvings on pillars, walls, and ceilings. The outer walls are richly decorated with sculptures, including elephant carvings at the base.

How to Reach

Sinnar is located 30 km from Nashik on the Nashik–Shirdi road. Buses are available from Nashik to Sinnar. The temple is located near the Tehsildar office on the roadside.

Notes

The temple complex is enclosed by a 5-foot-high fortified wall. The sabhamandap is supported by four pillars and features a carved tortoise at the center.
