Kadya Varcha Ganpati

Ratnagiri October to February

Introduction

Kadya Varcha Ganpati is an ancient Ganesh temple located on a cliff near Anjarle village, close to Dapoli in Ratnagiri district.

Religious Importance

The temple is unique due to its dramatic cliff-top location overlooking the coastal region.

History

Earlier temples of Ganesh and Ajralyeshwar existed on sea rocks near Anjarle. Due to rising sea levels, these shrines submerged, and the present temple was constructed on a higher cliff. The current structure was renovated in 1770.

Architecture

The temple consists of a sabhamandap, antarala, and sanctum. A fountain is present in the sabhamandap. The right-trunked Ganesh idol inside the sanctum is about 1.75 meters tall. A stone-built water tank is located in front of the temple.

How to Reach

Anjarle village lies about 15 km from Dapoli. The temple can be reached directly by road.

Notes

The cliff-top relocation after sea submergence of older temples makes this Ganesh shrine historically significant.
