Introduction
Dharmapuri is an ancient religious settlement located about 27 km from Ambajogai. The Chalukyan period Kedareshwar temple stands as a testimony to the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Religious Importance
Kedareshwar Mandir is significant for its exquisite stone sculptures and as evidence of the many ancient temples that once existed at Dharmapuri.
History
During the Muslim rule, a fort was constructed at Dharmapuri using stones taken from earlier temples. Many sculptural fragments from these temples are still visible in the fort walls.
Architecture
The temple is roofless today, but its walls and pillars are adorned with excellent carvings. Numerous fallen sculptures are scattered around the temple परिसर.
How to Reach
Dharmapuri is 27 km from Ambajogai. Buses, private vehicles and rickshaws are available. Vehicles can be taken directly up to the fort entrance.
