Shriram Mandir

Satara October to February
Shriram Mandir

Introduction

Shriram Mandir in Phaltan is the gramdaivat of the town and is closely associated with the historical Nimbalkar family.

Religious Importance

The temple holds great religious and cultural importance as the main deity shrine of Phaltan, with an annual Ram Rathotsav celebrated in November–December.

History

The temple is around 225 years old. Phaltan was historically known as Palethan in Mahanubhav literature and was regarded as Dakshinkashi due to the presence of several Mahanubhav temples. The Nimbalkar family, closely connected with the Maratha empire, played a major role in the temple’s patronage.

Architecture

The east-facing temple is enclosed by a high stone wall. The roof is supported by wooden pillars with carved arches. Decorative wooden lattices of 3–4 feet height with unique carvings line the sides. The sanctum houses idols of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita, with three deepmalas standing in front.

How to Reach

Phaltan is well connected by road. Pune–Phaltan distance is about 110 km and Satara–Phaltan distance is about 65 km.

Notes

The temple complex is located adjacent to the Phaltan Rajwada and is part of the historic town layout.
