Introduction
Ankush is a traditional tool used by mahouts to control elephants. It consists of three main parts: a sharp spike at the top, a semicircular hook below it, and a handle.
Historical Background
Specially crafted Ankushes were used for royal elephants and were often ornate. Many Ankushes feature carvings of elephants and crocodiles, reflecting mythological stories. Ankush is also depicted as a weapon in the hand of Lord Ganesha, symbolizing control and guidance.
