Cold Weapon Ancient & Medieval
Axe image first

Introduction

The Axe is one of the earliest tools and weapons developed by humans. During the Stone Age, forests covered most land, and the need to cut trees led to the invention of the axe by fixing a stone blade onto a long handle.

Historical Background

Over time, the shape of the stone evolved from circular to semi-circular. With the advent of the Iron Age, fully developed metal axes came into use. Axes were widely used in warfare to penetrate helmets and armour. However, due to their heavy weight, long-handled axes caused fatigue, leading to a gradual decline in their battlefield usage.
