Introduction

Waghnakha is a concealed hand-held weapon that became legendary after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used it to kill Afzal Khan, making it immortal in Indian history.

Historical Background

Before the 17th century, Waghnakha was not officially recognized as a weapon and was commonly associated with bandits and robbers. It later gained prominence due to its strategic use by Shivaji Maharaj. Similar claw-based weapons like the Lion’s Claw and Bear Dagger existed but never gained comparable fame.
