Introduction

One of the mountain ranges of Sahyadri starts from Surgana in Nashik and ends at Chandvad. This range is called Ajanta Satmaal. Amongst the various forts in this range, Rajdher, Indrai, Koldher and Chandvad lie in the Chandvad taluka.

How to Reach

There is one route to the fort. One has to reach Chandvad village via Nasik (distance 64 km) or Manmad (distance 24 km). From Chandvad, one has to get the bus to Rajdherwadi, which is the base village. The pathway from here takes around one and half hours to reach the base of the summit. Here the steps are broken and a ladder is kept. Without ladder, one needs a rope to climb.

Points of Interest

As we enter reach the fort top, we see a stone inscription on the left side of the arch of the entrance. After ascending the rock-cut steps to the fort, we come across 2 ways. Going further rightwards we can see the remnants of a mansion, which is the only intact place on this fort. If we go back on the way to the left, there is a rock-cut cave, which has a ladder to descend. On the top of the cave is a well with arch. Further there is another cave, and a pond, where a temple of Lord Shiva is situated in a cave. The way along the pond takes us to the summit, and there are few water tanks on this way. There is another pond on the top. It takes two hours to see the fort. Forts of Indrai, Mangi-Tungi, Nhavigad, Koldher, Dhodap are visible from the top.
