There is a temple at the base where we can find some stones painted with vermillion. After the trail for the fort ascend is started, in 10 minutes we come across two water tanks carved in rock to the left and a saffron flag mounted here. Head back to the unpaved road and begin the ascend for the fort which takes us 45 minutes to reach the first entrance of the fort which is in complete ruins now. The main characteristic of this fort is its fortification wall which is built in 4 layers parallel to each other which gives the cleft a strong defense. In the fortification wall to the left of the first entrance a bastion still stands well. Moving on the upper side of the fort there is a second doorway which is also in ruins. There is also a fortified wall to the right from where if we make a U turn we come across the third doorway. To the right side from here a path takes us to the right most edge of the fort.
There are two caves carved in rock here. One cave is fit for an over-night stay while the other has water. There is a door in front of the caves. A path from here goes to Dermal fort by keeping the edge to out left. After visiting the caves, head back to the third doorway. Moving left from the doorway there are another set of three caves which are very deep and infested by bats. One of the caves has water. After this continue the ascend and we come to another U turn path and later to the fourth doorway. There are two bastions to the left and right side here. To the left edge there are three caves and the water in it is potable. There is a Nandi sculpture in front the middle cave. The Shiva Linga is underwater and thus cannot be seen.
Going back to the path and ascending for another 5 minutes takes us to the fort summit through the cleft. The real spread of the fort can be seen from here. The fort is surrounded by a plateau from three sides. Move to the left first and ascend the summit. After 4-5 steps we come across two water tanks carved in stone and an arched wall to the upper right side of these tanks. This wall is the part of the mansion which was built in the past. There are lotus carvings on the arch. The internal part of the mansion is covered with dense shrubs which has the monument parts hidden in it. To the left of this mansion there is a Masjid/Mosque with a stone idol in it which is hard to identify. A path from the backside of this mosque goes to the edge of the fort. Some remnants of ancient houses and mansions and few water tanks can be found on this path. Head back and descend towards the fort entrance. There are idols of Lord Ganesh and Hanuman on the way. Opposite to the entrance of the fort there is a cleft, reach here. There are remains of fortification wall and devastated doorway in this cleft. This route is in complete ruins and can’t be used. After this move towards the plateau on the right on which there are a group of trees.
While walking towards this direction we come across a large dried up pond. Keep proceeding to the last edge. On the way we can see some carved and sculpted stones and a shiv ling. On the edge of the pond there is a shrine with carvings of two peacocks, lotus and shiv linga. Besides this shrine there is small compound made of stones. Going straight from here to the lower side there is a water tank and a dried up pond further. It takes 5 minutes to reach the end point of the fort where there is a bastion with a window made for watch keeping purpose. There is a cleft, a huge wide gap between the fort and the hill opposite to it. This cleft is man-made and has proper holds to descend. The purpose of this wide gap was to prohibit an attack by the enemy from the adjoining hill. On the hill opposite, there are platforms and potholes made for the watch-keepers. Mangi-TUngi, Dermal’s Bhairavkada can be seen clearly from here. It takes 3 hours to visit the entire fort.

| Reach Taharabad via Nashik-Satana which is 105 kms from Nashik. Jaykheda village is 8 kms from Taharabad on the Taharabad-Malegaon road and can be reached by buses or auto rickshaws from Taharabad. From Jaykheda to Wadi Pisol is a 5 km road and can be reach by auto rickshaws. While we start towards the fort from Pisolwadi we come to a Lord Hanuman temple at the base. We can reach till here by any vehicle. Standing in front of the fort we can see the gap to our right and a cleft covered with trees to our left. Take the unpaved path from the temple to reach this cleft. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the first entrance of the fort. |
